The Moto G Play 2022 is almost here as new leak highlights its design and hardware

This year, there has been a tonne of discussion regarding Motorola’s new foldable Razr. This week, the phone entered Europe for the first time after months of availability in China. There is currently no information on when or if the flagship will arrive in North America as of right now. However, the Lenovo-owned company doesn’t just concentrate on selling flagships; it has also had some success selling low-cost and mid-range phones internationally. Thanks to a recent leak, we now know more about the Moto G Play 2022, a new addition to the company’s lineup of budget handsets.

Undoubtedly, the Moto G Play 2021 existed. No, we don’t think it will look the same; the new information was provided by renowned Evan Blass in a piece he wrote for 91Mobiles. We’re getting a close-up look at the design tweaks that come with the Moto G Play this year, like the rear camera array that has been reconfigured with the sensors relocating to a more traditional top-left location as opposed to the central position on its predecessor. Additionally, the front camera notch has been eliminated, and the phone now has a hole-punch camera instead.

The 6.5-inch 1600 720 LCD screen and the octa-core MediaTek Helio G37 SoC, which is specifically made for entry-level smartphones, are among the key specifications revealed by Blass for the Moto G Play 2022. However, it remains to be seen how it will fare against the outdated Qualcomm Snapdragon 460. Sadly, this implies that at this pricing point for Motorola, we’re still using 4G and cannot upgrade to 5G. It is expected to include 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which is probably extendable with a microSD card. Since no other variations were mentioned, it’s likely that the Moto G 2022 will only be offered with one RAM configuration.

The smartphone’s 5MP selfie camera from the 2021 Moto G Play is still present in terms of cameras. Although Motorola’s lack of consideration for an improvement in this area surprises us, it is undoubtedly not a deal-breaker given the affordable pricing. The back camera system has been reconfigured to include a 16MP primary camera (up from 13MP), a 2MP camera for macro photography, and a 2MP depth sensor.

A 5,000mAh battery pack with a top charge rate of 10W completes the specification list. It’s possible that Motorola will continue to promote this phone as having a three-day battery life given that it resembles its predecessor in practically every way. Customers can anticipate Android 12 to work on its most recent Play, but given our experience with its lower-tier smartphones and our reporting on the company’s objectives, we wouldn’t hold our breath for frequent software updates.

The Moto G Play 2022 launch date and price were not disclosed in the leak. But given that 2022 is about to come to a conclusion, its arrival shouldn’t be too far off. However, given the price of the Moto G Play 2021 on launch day, we would be shocked if Motorola charges anything more than $170 for the new gadget.
